Hop into Spring!!
Jim Meese
April is a great time to be in Rehoboth Beach, as once again the anticipation of another beach season is upon us. As we hop into spring, many seasonal businesses are getting ready to reopen if they haven't already. Having reset our clocks to daylight saving time and officially passing into spring last month, we are more than ready to usher in warmer weather.
The month kicks off with April Fool's Day, allowing for fun jokes and pranks. April marks National Frog Month, which celebrates frogs and promotes conservation. Activities include educational programs and habitat protection initiatives. Library Week is celebrated from April 19-25, highlighting the important role of libraries in communities. Other April celebrations include National Walk Day on the 3rd, Deep Dish Pizza Day on the 5th, New Beer's Eve on the 6th, and National Beer Day on the 7th.
This year, April features two significant holidays: Jewish Passover and Christian Easter. Passover, or Pesach, begins before sundown on Wednesday, April 1, and ends after nightfall on Thursday, April 9. It commemorates the Israelites' emancipation from slavery in Egypt, marked by eating matzah and maror. The first two days are full holidays, followed by four days of Chol Hamoed with work allowed, concluding with two more holiday days.
Easter will be celebrated on Sunday, April 5, 2026, marking the resurrection of Jesus Christ and concluding Holy Week. Traditions include painting eggs, symbolizing new life, and the origins of the Easter bunny relate to rebirth. Good Friday, observed on April 3, commemorates Jesus' crucifixion and is part of the Paschal Triduum, highlighting the events leading to Easter Sunday.
April 15th marks the deadline for submitting our 2025 tax returns to the IRS, coinciding with National Sucks Day. Created by Bruce Novotny, this day acknowledges that not every situation is pleasant and highlights the challenges we face. It serves as a reminder that optimism can be unrealistic when things don’t go our way.
Locally, here in Rehoboth Beach, Rehoboth in Bloom will host their annual Blooming Dance Party on the 17th from 7:00-10:00pm at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center. Tickets are $30, with the Funsters providing the evening's entertainment. Dine downtown and then dance the night away. Desserts, snacks, and all beverages are included, so be sure to get your ticket for an evening of fun.
This month, Rehoboth Beach Main Street is highlighting several of our member businesses. We encourage you to stop by and say hello while visiting downtown Rehoboth Beach. Loves Liquors, located at 305 Rehoboth Avenue, offers 15 minutes of free parking and an extensive selection of fine wines from around the world, as well as a wide variety of beers and spirits, including unique offerings from local breweries and distilleries. If you're into needlepoint, be sure to visit Stitch-Stash at 102 North First Street. They are a full-service needlepoint store and would love for you to come in and stitch for a while. For simple home cooking at its best, head to Rigby's Bar and Grill at 404 Rehoboth Avenue. This casual bistro-style bar and grill features a cozy indoor dining area and a lovely outdoor garden patio. Don’t forget to ask about their daily drink specials and homemade desserts. A local favorite since 2009, you’ll be glad you stopped by. The Purple Parrot Grill at 134 Rehoboth Avenue offers a delicious range of dishes that put a modern twist on classic favorites, paired with a refreshing assortment of cocktails and craft beers. Lunch and dinner are served daily, along with brunch on weekends. A great time awaits at the Purple Parrot Grill. Finally, don't miss The Pink Flamingo Cafe/Bakery and Ice Cream at 222 Rehoboth Avenue. This stylish dessert cafe serves cakes, pastries, ice cream, coffee, and more. Be sure to stop in for your next treat; you won’t regret it!
You can read more about each of these showcased businesses later in this newsletter. They are all located downtown within walking distance from the boardwalk and hotels. Please be mindful of the increased foot traffic as the days grow longer and warmer. Walkers, joggers, dogs, and bikes will be out and about.

Pink Flamingo Cafe: A Community Favorite
Colleen Evans
The Pink Flamingo Cafe has quickly become a beloved gathering place in Rehoboth Beach, known for its inviting atmosphere and dedication to quality. The cafe specializes in unique coffee beverages, freshly created pastries and baked goods, and a selection of delectable ice cream.
Located at 222 Rehoboth Avenue, this dessert and coffee bar offers a newly renovated pink, gold, and floral space. It serves eclairs, cakes, crepes, and Instagram-worthy treats like a lemon-shaped lemon pastry. Each item is thoughtfully prepared, offering a distinct alternative to the standard fare found at chain cafes and coffee shops.
What sets Pink Flamingo Cafe apart is its strong connection to the local community. The cafe is rooted in Rehoboth Beach, operated with genuine care and attention to detail. Every aspect reflects a personal touch, creating an environment where neighbors feel welcome and valued. This commitment to authenticity and hospitality has made the cafe a favorite among both residents and visitors.
Whether you are seeking handcrafted flavors or a warm, friendly setting, the Pink Flamingo Cafe provides an experience that keeps guests coming back. Its reputation for quality and community spirit ensures that everyone who stops by is greeted with exceptional service and delicious offerings, making it the go-to destination for those craving something truly special in Rehoboth Beach.
The cafe, which recently opened in late 2025, is definitely a hit. Current hours are Monday - Friday: 10:00pm–9:00pm Saturday: 9:00am–10:00pm and Sunday: 10:00am–9:00pm.
Purple Parrot Grill
Peter Beck
For quite some time, my friend Maria has raved about her love for Sunday brunch, particularly the steak and eggs and the Bloody Marys at the Purple Parrot Grill, located at 137 Rehoboth Avenue, just a block away from the boardwalk. Finally, we found a Sunday that worked for both of us.
The inviting veranda overlooks the street, with unique garage doors that open wide on warm summer nights—perfect for soaking up the bustling atmosphere and watching people go by! Since it was the middle of winter and just before a late-February blizzard, we were grateful the doors were closed.
Placing our order was a breeze, as Maria and I knew exactly what we wanted. Our very efficient waiter served our food lightning-fast! Before we knew it, we were enjoying our meal, especially the Bloody Marys. I was delighted with my delicious steak, but opted for only one drink because I was conscious of the impending blizzard.
The Purple Parrot, a beloved establishment in Rehoboth, has been serving the community for twenty-five years. It first opened its doors in 1999 and relocated to its current site in 2005. In 2010, the restaurant underwent a major expansion that introduced the charming Biergarten, a popular area that runs alongside the building and connects to Wilmington Avenue. The lively colors—bright green, blue, and yellow—make it an eye-catching spot, and it remains one of the last surviving late nineteenth-century structures on Rehoboth Avenue.
Inside, the cheerful decor is enhanced by countless dollar bills signed by happy visitors, creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere. On this particular Sunday, the energy was vibrant, with joyful patrons who knew this might be their last day out before the impending storm! We couldn’t have asked for a better experience.
Throughout the year, the Parrot offers fun dinner specials. I particularly love the Burgers and Beers on Mondays because the burgers are huge—perfect for us “big boys.” Other specials include Crab Cakes and Crushers on Wednesdays, fish taco night on Fridays, and German Day on Saturdays for Schnitzel lovers!
Additionally, the Purple Parrot Grill isn’t just about food and drink; it’s also an excellent place for entertainment. Karaoke nights are held on Fridays and Saturdays, while Sundays feature a fun drag show. Be sure to check the website for scheduled events.
You’re sure to have a great time at the Parrot! Visit their website at http://www.ppgrill.com for the menu and information about daily specials and entertainment.
Stitch-Stash
Dan Slagle

Stitch-Stash is an exciting needlepoint studio in Rehoboth Beach at 102 N. 1st Street, just a block away from the boardwalk. It is built for people who love to stitch or want to learn. The shop specializes in hand-painted canvases, beautiful threads, and all the little details that make needlepoint both relaxing and rewarding.
If you’re curious, learning the basics takes about 20 minutes, and the staff is always happy to walk you through it. Whether you’re picking up a needle for the first time or have a long-time project stash, Stitch-Stash is here to offer guidance, inspiration, and a welcoming space to create.
They also love bringing stitchers together beyond the shop. This May, Stitch-Stash is hosting “A Shore Thing” Needlepoint Getaway at the Bellmoor Inn & Spa, a weekend designed for stitching, learning, and connecting with others who share the same passion. At its core, Stitch-Stash is about making needlepoint feel approachable, creative, and just a little bit addictive. To learn more, visit: stitch-stash.com
RIgby’s Bar and Grill
Peter Beck
On a foggy night in mid-March, Maria and I thought it was a perfect evening for some comfort food. Immediately, Rigby's Bar and Grill at 404 Rehoboth Avenue came to mind, since that particular Thursday featured their all-you-can-eat meatball-and-spaghetti special.
Yum! It's one of my favorite meals, and I was excited to give it a try.
Needless to say, we were not disappointed! We loved the casual bar-and-restaurant atmosphere at Rigby’s. The service was excellent and very friendly, which contributed to the evening's relaxed vibe.
Before long, we were served a generous portion of our delicious meal, accompanied by fresh garlic bread. You really can’t find a better deal in town for just $13.95! Both of us had a second helping, which was more than enough to leave us feeling satisfied. Maria and I enjoyed our wine, shared lots of laughs, and spent three delightful hours indulging in tasty food and great company.
Rigby's has been a staple of the restaurant and pub scene for about 15 years, offering simple, home-style dishes. You might wonder why the owners, John Glenstrup and John Black, chose the name "Rigby’s." I guessed it might be in honor of someone's dog or perhaps Peter Pan’s Cathy Rigby; however, it turns out there was no specific reason—the two Johns simply liked the name!
Additionally, Rigby's has a unique program for their nightly winter dinner specials, which is especially appealing to locals. Unlike most restaurants in Rehoboth, the daily specials menu changes every Sunday evening, making each week a fun surprise. All specials are served "while supplies last," so it’s a good idea to arrive early!
To keep the atmosphere lively, they host karaoke four nights a week: Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday starting at 8:00pm, and on Sundays from 6:00 to 9:00pm. Rigby’s features a great sound system and LED party lights that enhance the festive atmosphere. Also, they offer a late-night menu starting at 9:00pm.
If you're in the area, don't miss Rigby’s Sunday brunch, which many locals and tourists claim is the best in Rehoboth Beach. Brunch is served from 10:00am to 2:00pm.
To learn more about their menu options, special events, and entertainment, or to make a reservation, check out their website at https://www.rigbysrehoboth.com/.

Volunteer Recognition
Ching-Chi Hsia and his wife, Tammy, retired from Somers, NY, to Rehoboth Beach in 2017. They chose Delaware for its beautiful beaches, low property taxes, four distinct seasons, and its close proximity to friends and family in New York.
Ching-Chi retired from Citibank in 2005 after 24 years of service. He and Tammy, along with the support of friends and family, opened a Chinese and Japanese restaurant in Chestnut Ridge, New York. One of their regular customers often brought friends from Seaford, DE, to enjoy meals at their restaurant. This customer suggested they consider retiring in Delaware because of its low property taxes. During Labor Day weekend in 2013, they visited Lewes and Rehoboth Beach, purchased a lot in a lovely community, and built their home in 2014. After closing the restaurant in 2017, they moved permanently to Delaware.
In 2018, their neighbor Diane introduced them to Rehoboth in Bloom, a volunteer organization focused on planting flowers. Ching-Chi and Tammy have thoroughly enjoyed their time with the group, appreciating the camaraderie, friendships, and experiences related to flowers and the beach. They also volunteer at the Cape Henlopen Food Basket.
In addition to their volunteer work, Tammy enjoys Zumba and yoga, while Ching-Chi plays pickleball two to three times a week. With spring approaching, they are excited to start planting and caring for the flowers soon. They look forward to seeing others around downtown and wish everyone a happy gardening season.

Bollards Installation on Rehoboth Avenue Has Begun!
In mid-March, crews began excavating pavers at the intersection of Rehoboth Avenue and the Boardwalk in preparation for installing bollards, which are expected to continue until May 15. The bollards will be placed on Rehoboth Avenue leading up to the Bandstand, as well as at the edge of the Boardwalk and Rehoboth Avenue.
A bollard is a sturdy, vertical post designed to restrict traffic movement and protect pedestrians and property from vehicle intrusions. In simpler terms, they prevent cars, trucks, and buses from unintentionally or intentionally driving into sidewalks or the Boardwalk.
Approximately 32 bollards will be installed on Rehoboth Avenue towards the Bandstand, spaced five feet apart, along with about 35 bollards at the edge of the Boardwalk and Rehoboth Avenue. The project will also include two active barriers—either drop-arm or swing gates—at the Boardwalk on Rehoboth Avenue.
As the work progresses, it will be completed in sections, so the fencing will be relocated as crews focus on one area at a time. Access to the Boardwalk from Rehoboth Avenue will remain open throughout the project.
For more information, read the FAQs about the project here.
