Pizza, Ice Cream, French Fries, and More
Jim Mease
You know it's June when the weather is nice enough that everyone wants to be outside! With Memorial Day weekend behind us, it's time to embrace summer in Rehoboth. A stroll along the Boardwalk is a must, enjoying the ocean breeze and indulging in favorite snacks like pizza, ice cream, or French fries to round out the evening.
June is a great month for many reasons, but chief among them, for me, is that it signals the beginning of the hazy, hot, and humid days of summer! June is special because of holidays such as Juneteenth on June 19th, a new federal holiday that celebrates the end of slavery in the U.S., marking General Gordon Granger’s announcement in Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865. Other notable events include Flag Day on June 14th and Father’s Day on June 21st. June features the longest day of the year, the summer solstice, on June 21st at 4:24 AM EDT. By the end of the month, school lets out for summer, and the full moon, known as the Strawberry Moon, occurs on June 29th at 7:57 PM EDT.
There are also quirky celebrations throughout the month, like National Go Barefoot Day on June 1st, encouraging people to kick off their shoes for a good cause. National Leave the Office Early Day on June 2nd promotes work-life balance, while National Egg Day on June 3rd celebrates breakfast favorites. Other fun days include Name Your Poison Day on June 8th and National Splurge Day on June 18th, inviting everyone to treat themselves a little.
Rehoboth Beach Main Street is highlighting local businesses this month. New this year is The Dunes at 101 S. Boardwalk, which will be serving up good food and cocktails from their boardwalk-level restaurant. If you want to feel like you are in Hawaii, Nalu Surf Bar and Grill at 41 Rehoboth Avenue, with its Pacific island fusion cuisine of high-quality ingredients from sashimi-grade fish to Wagyu beef, and surfer videos, will be a sure hit. Blackwall Hitch at 52 Rehoboth Avenue offers an elevated coastal experience with its fresh, flavorful fare that cannot be beat. Down the block at 208 Rehoboth Avenue, Dos Locos, with its vibrant flavors and warm hospitality, has been serving up delicious dishes like chicken fajita burritos and mouthwatering shrimp for decades. Of course, if hot dogs and Latin American cuisine are your thing, then be sure and stop by Doggie Style at 4 North 1st Street for delicious gourmet foot-long hot dogs and Latin American cuisine. The Lilypad Children's Boutique is a charming retail store at 149 Rehoboth Avenue, specializing in stylish, unique kidswear. At 33 Baltimore Avenue, you’ll find Beaches The Green Truck Shop, a beautiful store providing home decor, unique gifts, gorgeous jewelry, and so much more. Also featured in this issue are some of our fabulous ice cream shops: The Ice Cream Store, Double Dippers, Archie's Ice Cream, and Uncle David’s Ice Cream Shop, each offering delicious and unique flavor options. All of these businesses welcome your visit. Please stop in and say hello and let them know you read about them in the Main Street Newsletter.
While you're out and about this month, please be mindful of all the visitors, dog walkers, and people on bikes and scooters as we move into our busy season.
Have a safe and wonderful time visiting downtown Rehoboth Beach. The Rehoboth in Bloom volunteers have planted summer flowers in the earth planters throughout town. As you stroll the Avenues, enjoying your favorite snacks, take a few minutes to pause and appreciate the variety and beauty of the flowers!

Showcasing Rehoboth Businesses
We All Scream for Ice Cream
Maria Misak
On a hot summer day, few things are more refreshing than ice cream - a treat synonymous with summer memories. In Rehoboth Beach, we’re fortunate to have several options to suit every taste and dietary restriction. At the western section of town at 237 Rehoboth Avenue, Uncle David’s Ice Cream serves Hopkins Dairy Farm delights. This business was created with philanthropic goals and supports the Boardwalk Buddy Walk. They also offer mobile catering.
A few doors to the north of the main drag, you’ll find Double Dippers at 11 North 1st Street. This old-fashioned ice cream parlor has been serving Hershey's Ice Cream for 26 years and is a mainstay favorite for many.
Archie’s serves frozen delights and hand-squeezed lemonade and orangeade at 2 locations: 42 and 25 Rehoboth Avenue. You can’t miss their bright storefronts with baskets of lemons on the counters. And finally, closest to the boardwalk at 6 Rehoboth Avenue is The Ice Cream Store, with over 100 flavors as well as vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free, and sugar-free offerings. Spin the wheel of flavor if you can’t decide for yourself. Don’t forget the jimmies/sprinkles!
With so many ice cream options, it’s hard to choose! Fortunately, we have the entire summer season ahead of us, so there’s time to try them all… and go back for more!
Doggie Style Unveils Its 2026 Summer Menu
Colleen Evans
Doggie Style, a standout dining destination at 4 North First Street in Rehoboth Beach, is welcoming the 2026 summer season with an expanded menu that brings a creative twist to the classic hot dog. Known for bold flavor combinations and distinctive specialty creations, the restaurant continues to offer signature favorites such as the Lit Boricua, Lit Hillbilly, and Lit German, each crafted to deliver a memorable and unexpected dining experience.
This season, Doggie Style is also introducing jumbo turkey legs, along with several new hot dog offerings, further expanding its popular menu. In addition to its specialty foot-longs, the restaurant features a broad selection of Latin and Caribbean cuisine, with influences from Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Argentina, and the wider Caribbean. Recent additions, including Dominican morcilla and new sandwich options such as the Tripleta, reflect the restaurant’s commitment to variety, authenticity, and flavor-forward dining.
Doggie Style is open seven days a week during the summer season with the following hours:
- Weekdays: 12:00 PM - 9:00 PM
- Weekends: 12:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Whether guests are discovering new flavors or returning to enjoy familiar favorites, Doggie Style invites locals and visitors alike to experience its distinctive menu offerings throughout the summer season.
You can call Doggie Style at (302) 384-4386 to order ahead!
Nalu Surf Bar and Grill
Peter Beck
Nalu Surf Bar and Grill has been a beloved part of the Dewey Beach scene since 2008 and opened a second location in Rehoboth Beach in April 2019, quickly becoming a local favorite.
Located just half a block from the boardwalk at 41 Rehoboth Avenue, Nalu is the perfect spot for people-watching at the bar and enjoying delicious Pacific Island fusion cuisine in the dining room. The restaurant prides itself on high-quality ingredients, including sashimi-grade fish and Wagyu beef, all served in a fun, upbeat island atmosphere. The name "Nalu," which means the sound of waves in Hawaiian, perfectly captures the laid-back vibe, inviting guests to savor giant frozen drinks while soaking up the sun.
Nalu Rehoboth Beach is well known for its vibrant Hawaiian surf theme, complete with surfboard-shaped tables and exciting tropical cocktails. Its large portion sizes make it a popular choice, with menu highlights including nachos, coconut shrimp tacos, and Baja rockfish burritos. The restaurant is a lively, family-friendly destination that attracts both tourists and locals, especially during the busy season.
Some of my favorite starters over the years include the perfectly cooked chicken lemongrass potstickers and the volcano roll. I always enjoy the poke bowls, smash burgers, and my perennial favorite, pad thai. There are also vegan options and kid-friendly choices on the menu. Don’t miss out—try the food, and you won’t be disappointed.
The restaurant is open daily for lunch, dinner, and cocktails, and you can also order online for pick-up. During the summer, please note that Nalu features live music entertainment nightly at its Dewey Beach location.
The Dunes
Peter Beck
Looking to dine and drink with front-row seats right on the boardwalk? Stop by The Dunes!
The Dunes is located where Baja Bobs used to be. The location is conveniently situated right below Above the Dunes on the boardwalk, but there are no steps to climb! After some minor renovations, including additional booths and tables, some paint, and added charm, the new restaurant opened in late spring.
The Dunes is the newest "Seafood Forward" restaurant in Rehoboth Beach. They offer a variety of menu options, though it's slightly pared down from upstairs. The Dunes offers all of the popular items from Above the Dunes, but the entrees are not on the menu. However, diners can still enjoy the handhelds, the fabulous cheesesteak eggrolls, the fresh cut calamari, the fantastic crab cake sandwich, the fresh salads, and of course, my personal favorite… the Caribbean bowl.
On a dreary mid-May afternoon, I stopped in for lunch. I was greeted by a very enthusiastic person. Charming, friendly waitress named Cesi who immediately told me that I would love the smash burger… and she was totally on target! I enjoyed every bite of my burger and the fantastic, crispy waffle fries. I loved every bite of my meal! What a great lunchtime treat, especially with the gorgeous view.
There is a nicely stocked bar in The Dunes, and while it is also pared down from the fabulous upstairs space, you will find most of your alcohol needs met! In addition, you will find wings at The Dunes, which are not available upstairs. It’s a great spot for grab and go as well as a quick break from sunning on the beach.
Remember that if you want a relaxing dinner with family or friends at Above the Dunes or The Dunes, you may want to arrive early to snag one of many oceanfront seats on the patio or by the window. Please note and enjoy the happy hour specials for early birds at the bar!
The Green Truck Stop
Jeff Balk
Tucked along Baltimore Avenue, in the heart of downtown Rehoboth Beach, is one of the area’s charming small businesses, Beaches~ The Green Truck Shop. It is more than just a gift shop; it’s a carefully curated space filled with personality and coastal warmth.
Opened in 2023 and owned by Dana and Kevin Peccon, who moved to Sussex County after vacationing at the Delaware beaches for years. Inside the shop, you will find a mix of home décor, jewelry, candles, and unique gifts that reflect both beach-town charm and farmhouse-inspired comfort.
The store’s name and its theme come from a family heirloom: a 1966 green Chevy pickup truck once owned by Dana’s grandfather. The vintage truck inspired the shop’s identity, and green truck décor can be found throughout the space, adding a personal and nostalgic touch to the shopping experience.
What makes the shop especially memorable is its atmosphere. Customers are greeted by locally made candles, handcrafted jewelry, and displays that feel more like stepping into a welcoming coastal home than a traditional retail store. Every corner offers something different, from beach-inspired accents to artisan gifts perfect for locals and vacationers alike.
Located at 33-C Baltimore Avenue, the shop has quickly become a favorite stop for
visitors exploring downtown Rehoboth Beach.
For anyone searching for a one-of-a-kind shopping experience that blends coastal style with heartfelt family history, Beaches~ The Green Truck Shop is well worth the visit.
Whether you’re looking for the perfect gift, a piece of home décor, or simply a place
filled with character and creativity, this Rehoboth Beach gem delivers all three.

The Lilypad Children’s Boutique-Ready for Summer 2026
Colleen Evans
Shopping for yourself is always fun, but there’s something extra special about picking out clothes and gifts for the little people in your life. It’s retail therapy with an added dose of joy.
That experience is exactly what Kimberly Carey—owner and buyer extraordinaire of The Lilypad Children’s Boutique—aims to create for parents, grandparents, and kid-loving friends. Her shop is filled with fashionable clothing, toys, and accessories that are creatively designed and carefully chosen.
Lilypad launched with one simple goal: to offer a thoughtfully curated collection of baby and children’s clothing and accessories that delights both parents and kids.
Carrying some of the most sought-after brands, Carey selects apparel, accessories, and toys for boys and girls alike—from newborns through the largest size each brand offers. “We carry the latest collections from our favorite brands,” she says. “Right now, we’re stocking up on summer clothing and accessories for the 2026 season.”
With an experienced, knowledgeable team, Carey’s top priority is simple: providing great, individualized customer service. She also loves being part of her clients’ milestones—welcoming new babies, celebrating birthdays, and helping families find something special for holidays and other happy occasions.
“I encourage customers to text or email us if they find something online and have questions before purchasing,” says Carey. “We’ll pull the item and have it ready—either for the client to see in person or for their child to try on.”
For a local children’s boutique experience that feels unique, personal, and refreshingly different from big luxury retailers, visit Lilypad Children’s Boutique at 149 Rehoboth Avenue in Rehoboth Beach or browse online.

Rehoboth Beach Public Library Update

Phase 1 of construction at the Rehoboth Beach Public Library is about half complete and is expected to be finished in October, allowing the library to transition into the new area before construction begins on the current section, according to library board president Kay Wheatley. The project, which began last Thanksgiving, includes updates to the library's structure and the installation of a new HVAC system. The renovation aims to improve space and services, with new study rooms replacing the former garden area. Phase II is anticipated to wrap up by the end of the first quarter of next year. The total project cost is about $8 million, with significant funding secured from the American Rescue Plan Act and the state's Bond Bill. The library is currently raising the remaining $2 million through a capital campaign. For more details, visit www.reholibrarycapitalcampaign.com.

Volunteer Recognition

This month, we have the pleasure of celebrating volunteer of the month Lorrie Their, an incredibly dedicated volunteer who has been a vibrant part of the RBMS community for several years. Lorrie’s journey began at the scenic Jersey Shore, where she later planted roots and raised her family in a charming rural farming community in New Jersey. For the past three decades, she has wholeheartedly devoted herself to her daughters, while also embracing the joys and challenges of family life.
Lorrie's passion for volunteering is truly inspiring. In her previous community, she wore many hats, lending her talents to various environmental committees, guiding young minds in Girl Scouts, getting involved in the PTA, serving on the board of a therapeutic horseback riding farm, supporting education funds, and rescuing animals in need. A true community advocate, she even founded a non-profit dedicated to raising community awareness and managed an online newsletter that connected residents.
Since joining RIB, Lorrie has reignited her love for nurturing nature, transforming her three acres into a vibrant tapestry of perennials, trees, herbs, and vegetables. She eagerly contributes to RIB and the Verrazano Garden, plays an integral role on the Promotions Committee, and helps organize beloved events such as Community Unity, the Holiday Stroll, and Gumbo Crawl. Lorrie has also stepped into co-chairing the newly formed Retail Business Subcommittee and is excited to serve as the RBMS Volunteer Coordinator. Her commitment doesn’t end there; she’s also a dog walker, kennel helper, and event support staff for Humane Animal Partners.
Lorrie and her husband, Craig, have enjoyed their current home for about five years, though they’ve cherished it for nearly 24. They treasure their three lovely daughters and make the most of every school break, creating unforgettable memories at the Rehoboth beaches and boardwalk, as well as local favorites like Zelky's and Funland.
Recently, they welcomed Floki, a Queensland Heeler mix, into their family after becoming a "foster fail." Floki is thrilled to explore local gems such as Uncle David's, The Ice Cream Store, Freddie's, Tiki Jacks, and Frosty Paws, especially when there's a tasty treat involved!
Lorrie’s journey is a testament to the joy of giving back and building a loving, engaged community!
